“Provocation”? Delivering food to our own soldiers, in our own EEZ, is not troublemaking.

Once again, China Coast Guard vessels are approaching Pag-asa Island, home to Filipino families and part of the Municipality of Kalayaan, Palawan. Just recently, Chinese vessels harassed BFAR ships that were only 54 nautical miles from mainland Palawan. They also blocked the AFP’s resupply mission carrying food, water, and other supplies to our soldiers at Ayungin Shoal.

These are not isolated incidents. This is a deliberate and ongoing pattern of intimidation. They are clearly disregarding international law, including UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award, which is final and binding. Whenever our attention is diverted, China tests how far they can push their imperialist ambitions.

It’s normal in a democracy to have differing views on politics. But when it comes to the West Philippine Sea, there should be only one side: it’s ours! As Filipinos, we need to fight misinformation and unite in the battle for the West Philippine Sea, regardless of our political colors. We must never lose sight of what is ours!
