Philippine Coast Guard Ensures Safety of Fishermen Amid Aggressive Acts at Escoda Shoal

December 13, 2025 | The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully deployed its multi-role response vessels MRRV-4403 and MRRV-4411 to assist Filipino fishermen harassed by Chinese vessels near Escoda Shoal in the West Philippine Sea. Around 20 Filipino fishing boats were subjected to water cannon attacks, dangerous blocking maneuvers, and deliberate cutting of anchor lines by the China Coast Guard and Chinese Maritime militia, resulting in injuries to three fishermen and damage to two boats.

Despite repeated and hazardous attempts to block PCG vessels during transit, the Coast Guard reached the fishermen, provided immediate medical assistance, and delivered essential supplies including fuel, food, and ice. In line with the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and under the leadership of Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, the PCG reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protect Filipino fishermen, ensure maritime safety, and uphold the Philippines’ sovereign rights within its exclusive economic zone.
