𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | Commodore Jay Tarriela, Philippine Coast Guard Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, has officially filed a cyberlibel complaint against Sass Rogando Sasot. The case was filed with the legal assistance of the Movement Against Disinformation (MAD), underscoring the PCG’s commitment to combating online misinformation and safeguarding its personnel from malicious and defamatory attacks.
The legal action stems from a series of online posts and public statements made by Sasot, which Commodore Tarriela described as false, malicious, and clearly intended to discredit him in his official capacity. This move sends a strong message that public officials will not remain silent in the face of disinformation, especially when it threatens their personal and professional integrity.
Commodore Tarriela emphasized that while public discourse and dissent are integral to a democratic society, such freedoms must be exercised responsibly and grounded in truth. “This is not merely about personal attacks—it’s about protecting the dignity of public servants and preserving the integrity of institutions committed to national service,” he said.
