The Philippine Coast Guard has achieved a significant breakthrough in defending national sovereignty after confirming unauthorized Chinese marine scientific activities in Philippine waters. PCG Spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela revealed that the operation captured clear evidence, including the deployment of a submersible and retrieval of a yellow device by a Chinese vessel—marking the first time such undeniable proof has been documented in the West Philippine Sea.
This milestone reinforces the PCG’s role in safeguarding the country’s maritime rights and supports the efforts of the West Philippine Sea Transparency Group. It also strengthens the Philippines’ position in global maritime discussions on sovereignty and territorial protection.
