President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. explained that the “reset” in relations with China aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation in the West Philippine Sea, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue between the two countries.
The President said that as tensions and confrontations in the region continue to increase, the Philippines must re-engage with China and communicate that the current trajectory is “not headed in the right direction.” He stressed the need to find ways to lower tensions and de-escalate the situation to prevent incidents at sea from escalating into dangerous misunderstandings between Philippine and Chinese forces.
