Comic Books Launch
Learning about the West Philippine Sea became as engaging as a comic book with the launch of The Stories of Teacher Jun at the National Library of the Philippines. This innovative comic simplified maritime law, geopolitics, and history, making complex topics accessible to students, educators, and the public.
The event gathered key figures, including the Department of Education Secretary, Senator Sonny Angara, National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año, Senior Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, and Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan, highlighting strong institutional support for the project.
Developed by the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea and the Philippine Coast Guard, the comic was published in both English and Filipino to promote awareness and counter misinformation. Free copies were distributed to select public high schools in Metro Manila, while 1,500 copies and a large replica were donated to the National Library for nationwide access.
More than just a comic, The Stories of Teacher Jun became a movement, inspiring Filipinos to learn, engage, and take pride in protecting the nation’s maritime heritage.
